When someone hears the term “sales” it has such a negative connotation. Most people think of a con man, or a used car salesman trying to do whatever they can to sell you on something.

In business, this is the opposite of what you should be doing. Sales are about helping people, in whatever way you can – not landing a sale.

If you help someone get what they need, even if it’s not from you, they are more likely to come back and buy something else from you. They’ll appreciate you.

Being pushy only makes people upset, and feel like they had one pulled over on them. Sales aren’t about desperation, it’s about putting yourself out there and really trying to improve people’s lives.

You also have to be honest with yourself. Are you selling to make money, or are you selling because you’re actually passionate about your product? If it’s the first, you need to change your career. Sell what you believe in, otherwise, you are just pulling one over on people.

In this episode of Old Souls & Seekers, Ilan is joined by Stan Way, who is on a mission to change how sales work in business and give the word salesman a good name again.

The Cliff Notes:

  • The media has a false portrayal of what sales really is.
  • Sales aren’t about pressure, it’s about helping.
  • If you don’t believe in what you are selling, you are going to sell sabotage.
  • Putting yourself out there are sales.
  • You need to try things to know if they really work.
  • Understand that the “nos” are going to come.
  • All you need is 3 or 4 case studies of social proof.
  • Serve only those who want to be served.
  • Don’t let the story you are telling yourself affect your self-confidence.
  • Every action is either helping you win or helping you lose.
  • When someone says no, don’t get upset. Get curious.
  • Get a coach, don’t try to do it all yourself.
